Vray 2.30.01 For 3ds Max 2013 32 Bit
we are using 3ds max 2013 and all our materials have been created using the custom patterns script. the values of the the custom patterns were created by 2 different artist in house 4. it looks like you can get to this from the surfaces tab in your regular reflectivity tab. however, for some reason, when i create a texture with one of the layered patterns, it never seems to be applied correctly (ie. no pattern is applied to the new texture).
anytime i restart, the pattern will be applied on top of the old texture. i’ve even tried to create a new material just for the textures and then applying that as a base coat. the new material is never applied to the textures.
i’ve spent hours trying to figure this out with no success. if anyone knows what i’m doing wrong, it would be really appreciated.
i figured this out and it’s pretty easy, at least for me. add a render node for a light to your render pipeline. the node should have a slot with ‘light 1’. inside that slot add an output texture slot. in the settings for the texture slot you want to use, in the set menu, click on the square with the wheel icon and choose custom pattern.
alright, after all that i’m going to put this in here, at least in the hopes of saving someone else from as much pain as i experienced. i have an ‘aov’ that contains a texture that i created from an unrelated max render pass. i created the material from an image i found and imported into my project. somehow, i screwed up the settings for the texture slot in the ‘aov’ setting so when i go to render it, max just ignores the material. i tried applying the material myself, changing settings, clicking on the square wheel icon in the settings section of the texture slot and everything, but it’s still ignored. so, i just started over and created the material from a standard max texture. it worked like a charm.
